| Scribble Cookies |

| This is a project that I've been dying to try for years, and I finally did it last night. I first learned of scribble cookies from reading MaryAnn Kohl's books about art experiences for young children. I just LOVE all of her books and get inspired whenever I flip through one.
I decided to try this project out on my Kindergarten students. Nothing like the possibility of disappointing 32 darling 5-year-olds! Thankfully, they all turned out great! They are going to love their scribble cookies.
Here's how I did them... The kids chose their crayons and peeled the paper wrapper off of them. They broke them into pieces and put them in an unlined muffin tin. I put all of their names on the bottoms of the muffin tins on a piece of masking tape. Yes, finding their designated tin required a lot of lifting the whole thing above my head. It looked a little funny. I put them in the oven heated to 200 degrees. I kept a close eye on them. I pulled them out when some of the crayons were liquid and some were just soft because I didn't want all of the colors to mix together. I let them cool overnight. This morning they all popped right out when I flipped over the muffin tin. Then I moved the name tapes from the tin bottoms to the cookies. Couldn't be easier!
I haven't washed out the muffin tins yet, but MaryAnn assures me that they will clean up with hot soapy water. She hasn't let me down yet! |

| Sorry, Martha...I just had to steal your line.
Last year at this time I was saddened by the possibility that one of my favorite products was being discontinued. Thankfully, it has reappeared, much to my relief. This item is COLORED PAPER TAPE. This tape comes in sets of 10 colors and has water-activated adhesive on one side. All your child has to do is cut the colored tape into shapes (with scissors or paper punches), moisten the one side on a damp sponge, and stick onto a piece of paper or card. The creative possibilities are endless. No need for messy glue sticks. The colors are vibrant, sure to inspire hours of creativity. This paper tape is perfect for a group activity, especially if you are tired of those foamie shape kits, bleck!

| I just crack up at the stuff I get myself into. For my first project at my new school I wanted to do a project close to my heart: paper mache apples. I love this project and can't wait to display all those wonderful apples. There's just one problem...I have 100 students! I have never done quite THIS many apples at one time. So far this week I have made two mega batches of rice paste (see instructions for recipe) and have to make another tonight!
I have gone to four grocery stores looking for rice flour. Earlier this week I gave up and used BROWN rice flour which didn't work nearly as well. Now I know to stick with the WHITE rice flour. Live and Learn!
You can print out the instructions for my Paper Mache Apples on the FREE SAMPLES page of this website. Enjoy! |

| Happy Back-To-School! |

| When my alarm went off this morning reality began to set in. Augh! Summer is really over. I am one who likes the routine of school and the quietness of an empty house. But those days are really over because I have to go to school too! I just went back to work for the first time since becoming a mommy. Now I'm a working artsy mommy! It's a fun job and one that I am somewhat familiar with. I'm the new Art Teacher in a local charter school. I just spent the last week cleaning and organizing the art supplies. I have placed an order for new supplies and can hardly wait for them to come in. Nothing gets me more excited than new art supplies. It's better than ten Christmases!
I'll keep you updated on my art projects that do my students this year. Some of them just might make it onto my website! Stay Tuned! |

| Here's what moms are saying ...
"I really enjoy your craft tips - they are always new and fun."
Kathy
"For three years my children attended Deb's art classes. Now we have my childrens' projects in every room of our house. The best part is the beautiful presentation. My children did everything themselves, but it was finished in such a way that it became art that we wanted to hang on our walls. "
Denise
"We love your art projects. They are so creative and my kids loved doing them. Your beautiful projects still hang up on our walls!"
Alex
"We have many of your art projects around the house as decorations! I just pulled out a beautiful tile mosaic that my daughter made. When people comment on it it makes her feel so special!"
